I haven't been posting much lately. I just don't know what to write about. My home-life hasn't been too fun lately. I wrote to a friend today and admitted that I was a lonely and messed up guy. Not a very self-affirming statement, but it is the truth.
Sometimes, life dishes up plates you just don't know how to handle. That's how I've been feeling lately. I miss simplicity. One thing about the LDS church is that its pretty simple. Its got a one-sided view, and everything has to fit within the view. If it doesn't fit within the view, it has to be wrong.
Lately I'm really torn about some kind of fundamental church beliefs. Like for instance, is there really a great two-sided battle which we play the pawns in? The other one that has caused me a lot of thoughts lately: is gender really an eternal characteristic?
Share your thoughts.. They've got to be more fun than most of mine.

ReplyDeleteWelcome to the gray side that many of us live in
is gender really an eternal characteristic?
It sounds simple enough, until you read of an infant born with ambiguous genitals where the doctors 'assign' their gender and then perform corrective surgery so that they most resemble that assigned gender. Is God bound to honor the decisions of the doctors?
Those are both two really hard questions!
ReplyDeleteMy initial feelings on the Two Sides argument is to say, yes, there are only two sides: God's and the Adversary's. Because I know, sure as hell, that I want to be on God's side. But I know that there are people (like our Mormon brothers) who would rather die than have us on their side. And while we are at it, there are some people (like our Mormon brothers) that honestly believe they will be on God's side, yet they have treated me in VERY unGod-like ways.
But if they got their way and I had to go fight for the Adversary, I won't be a very good foot soldier for him.... and in saying that, doesn't that mean I'm meant to be in God's playing field.
The gender thing... I have never questioned my gender, so it is hard for me to empathize or understand those that do... So I feel like I'm not entitled to an opinion on this topic. I'd love to say that since it's in the Family Proclamation it must be true, but that prophesy has let me down before. :/

ReplyDeleteI have serious issues with a Heavenly Father who creates spirit children only to have 1/2 of them revel and be cast off, then out of the rest who do come to earth 1%-maybe less? will live and enjoy the only true church upon the face of the earth, so what's the point of the whole thing having created children to have most of them fail at the test? tsk, tsk, tsk...just doesn't fit in my uneducated, non-spiritual mind.

Depends on who you ask! LOL but according to the LDS church those who make it to the highest level of glory will be busy creating spirit children non-stop for all eternities, that may be the straight man's ultimate fantasy and I guess gender will definitely be a vital characteristic.
There, that made you laugh a little? oh well I tried!
Hugs anyway, pl
I read a book by Brian Weiss. He's a psychiatrist that years ago stumbled ont people who sort of lived multiple lives. Good book, fascinating premise--that we repeat this life many, many times, in many, many bodies, both genders, and the same group of friends/family show up pretty much each time. The book made me wonder about gender being an eternal characteristic, as well as a lot of other things.
