There's my tidbit of the day.
A blog to share thoughts, experiences and feelings, not to mention the history of a gay mormon who just happens to have been married, gay or bisexual (depending on your definition) and is experiencing a whole new world right now...

Where do we fit?
Last night I got invited over to a friend in the ward's house. Nice fellow, was my home teacher. We watched a new motion picture that he was very involved in producing. It hasn't been released yet in theaters. I think he said it was coming around October. The movie is about an LDS Dad of 6 kids who has a frustrating job, and plenty of stress, then gets called as a Bishop. Sort of a make you feel good about mormon fatherhood movie. Beautiful scenes, nice actors, one of the better movies I've seen in the LDS genre. It was nice to see, but during the movie I just kept thinking: and what if he or one of his kids were gay. You see, all the problems in the movie were really solvable and considered "normal" in mormon life. It all works just great unless you are a guy that is attracted to guys. Oh well, at least it wasn't painful to watch.

Pardon my cynicism but don't look for a movie about your suggested plot twist anytime soon. Most Mormons would react to such a movie as if it were swine flu and AIDS and polio all rolled into one and contagious from mere proximity. They tend to like light fluffy entertainment and won't pay for much that challenges their paradigms or makes them uncomfortable. And since the movie business is just that, a business, about money, don't hold your breath for any intersect of "Mormon" and "gay" unless it's made outside the Church, e.g. Angels in America.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid there is no place for gay men in the Mormon Church. Not unless you are willing to keep quiet about it, spend your entire life trying to be celibate, while at the same time professing to have a "testimony" of how important straight relationships are. What a farce and waste.
ReplyDeleteOn a completely unrelated note, I think I saw you today driving away from Gold's Gym.
